Ryan Reynolds' Wrexham Passion Leaves Children Annoyed During Family Time

Hollywood actor and Wrexham co-owner Ryan Reynolds has candidly revealed how his deep commitment to the Welsh football club frequently irritates his children during family activities. This week marks exactly five years since Reynolds, alongside fellow star Rob McElhenney, completed their transformative takeover of the Red Dragons.

From National League to Championship Success

Under their ownership, Wrexham has experienced a meteoric rise, securing three consecutive promotions from the National League to the Championship. The club's journey has captivated global audiences through the popular Disney+ documentary series Welcome to Wrexham, which chronicles the duo's ownership adventure.

Reynolds explained that his enthusiasm for Wrexham often disrupts family moments, as casual outings frequently evolve into extended discussions with passionate supporters. Speaking to The Athletic, the Deadpool star shared: "I know I'm a football fan and a Wrexham lifer because I'm inconsolable when we lose. I've never been as invested in winning and losing before."

"My kids get frustrated about it," Reynolds continued. "If we are walking down the street, I'll get asked about Deadpool and it's usually just a two or three-second conversation. But if someone talks about Wrexham, I just turn right round and park it against a street pole. My kids are like, 'Oh no!'"

Working-Class Roots Drive Ownership Passion

Throughout the past five years, both Reynolds and McElhenney have consistently emphasized their motivation for purchasing Wrexham stems from the town's working-class heritage and their desire to revitalize both the club and community. McElhenney, who grew up in Philadelphia, reflected: "From the very beginning, it was, and always will be, about working-class people. The community of Wrexham. That is what always drew me in."

Reynolds added: "No one survives in the entertainment business for as long as Rob has - or, certainly as long as I have - if you're unpleasant to people. We're aligned because we both came from working-class families who didn't have much."

The actor further explained: "We both have values that didn't even need to be identical. Just, at its root, it needed to at least have some sort of understanding that you occasionally get what you need but never what you want, growing up. That seemed to be the norm in Wrexham when we got there."

Current Success and Future Ambitions

Wrexham currently occupies sixth position in the Championship, positioning them just inside the playoff spots as they pursue an unprecedented fourth consecutive promotion. Despite speculation about how long the Hollywood pair will maintain their football club ownership, McElhenney insists they continue to relish the experience.

"So many of the questions we get are centred around pressure or anxiety or fear," McElhenney noted. "I think of it as a respite. This is a joy. I love talking about Wrexham and I love experiencing it."

The remarkable transformation of Wrexham AFC under Reynolds and McElhenney's ownership represents one of football's most compelling modern stories, blending Hollywood glamour with authentic community investment while occasionally testing family patience along the way.
