Roy Keane Slams 'Frightened' Liverpool After Defeat to Manchester United
Roy Keane Slams Liverpool After Man United Defeat

Roy Keane launched a scathing attack on Liverpool after their dismal first-half display against Manchester United, branding the Reds 'frightened to death' as they fell two goals behind at Old Trafford.

First-Half Dominance by United

Arne Slot's side were completely outclassed by Michael Carrick's men during the opening 45 minutes. Matheus Cunha opened the scoring after just six minutes with a stunning half-volley that bounced beyond Freddie Woodman's reach. Less than ten minutes later, Benjamin Sesko bundled in a contentious second goal, sparking immediate protests from Liverpool players who claimed the ball had struck his hand.

VAR reviewed the incident extensively but found no clear evidence of handball, allowing the goal to stand. Despite Liverpool's grievances, Keane showed no sympathy for the visitors.

Keane's Verdict

Speaking on punditry duty, Keane said: 'Slot won't be happy with the handball call, but he should be more upset with his team. They look frightened to death. They've started slow, given up two goals, defensively dreadful. Robertson getting beaten at the back post... it's been awful. Liverpool are like a bad five-a-side team, not athletic, giving the ball away cheaply. United look like they can score every time they go forward.'

Both Keane and Daniel Sturridge agreed the goal should stand. Sturridge noted: 'It's come off the upper thigh and seems to have grazed the nail. Are you going to take a goal back because of a touch on the fingernail?' Keane added: 'I'm a bit old school. I don't think you want those goals getting cancelled.'

Liverpool's Second-Half Fightback

Liverpool responded after the break, with Dominik Szoboszlai scoring two minutes into the second half. Nine minutes later, Alexis Mac Allister intercepted a wayward pass from United goalkeeper Senne Lamens, setting up Szoboszlai who teed up Cody Gakpo to tap home from close range. However, United secured a winner through Kobbie Mainoo to seal their place in the Champions League.
