Jail Roundup: Corrupt Officers, Murderer Sentenced

Two 'corrupt' prison officers and a murderer who stabbed his sister’s boyfriend to death are among those jailed this week in Greater Manchester.

Corrupt Prison Officers

Jai Gascoyne, 25, and Elle Walton, 27, shared Valentine's cards with brothers serving long sentences in HMP Buckley Hall in Rochdale. Gascoyne was sentenced to 16 months in prison, while Walton was sentenced to 13 months.

Murderer Jailed for Life

Anthony Junior Murray inflicted a ‘horrific’ single blow to Joe Burton’s back with a combat knife, causing a fatal injury. Murray, 25, was ordered to serve a minimum of 18 years behind bars.

Car Thieves Filmed Themselves

Joel Wolfenden and Graham Cooke, both 26, filmed themselves in a Range Rover they had just nicked. They were jailed alongside Kamran Khan, 36, for their part in a criminal operation that saw vehicles stolen from homes in Gorton and Levenshulme in January. Wolfenden was jailed for seven years and 10 months, and Cooke for eight years and 11 months.

Pensioner Slashed

Deacon Hart, 21, of Wigan, was jailed for two years after slashing a pensioner across the neck following a row over his motorbike. The offence took place on June 27, 2024, when an elderly man was walking his two dogs on a pedestrian bridge over the M58 Motorway in Orrell.

Rapist Jailed

Mohammed Al Masri, 25, tricked an ‘extremely drunk’ lone woman into his car, telling her he would take her home in an Uber. He instead took her to his east Manchester HMO where he raped her. He was jailed for eight years.

Brothers Caused Fatal Crash

Abubakr Yusaf, 31, of Manchester, was sentenced to 14 years for causing the death of Rhys Jenkins in a road race in Wales in November 2024. His brother Umar was also jailed.

Murderer Caught on Pet Cam

Anthony Junior Murray was jailed for life with a minimum of 18 years for stabbing his sister's boyfriend to death after a row about his dog. The murder was captured on a pet camera.

Killer Refused to Face Victims

Ashley Crowder, 37, was jailed for life with a minimum term of 25 years for the murder of Graham Cox. Crowder refused to attend court to face his victim's loved ones.

Stun Guns Found

Kie Connor, 24, was found with 31 stun guns and told police they were 'just toys'. He was sentenced to three years and eight months.

Drug Gang Kingpin Jailed

Warren Barnes, 38, who called himself 'Pablo Picasso', was jailed for 10 years and six months for leading a drugs and money laundering gang. Associates Paul and Adam Taylor were also jailed.

Attempted Murder

Moven Kajese, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to attempted murder and was sentenced to an extended sentence for public protection, serving two-thirds of a 16-year term.

Serial Fraudster Jailed

Deborah Swift, 54, was jailed for two years and eight months for stealing more than £25,000 from a golf club and an equestrian centre.

Brothers Caught with Cannabis

Carl and Josh Threadgill were jailed for 26 and 24 months respectively for trying to smuggle cannabis through Manchester Airport.
