Roy Keane's Management Stance Amid Calls for Manchester United Return

Roy Keane has been tipped by former Manchester United teammates to take over as interim manager following Ruben Amorim's sacking, but the Irishman may have damaged his chances with critical comments about Sir Alex Ferguson. Keane, who has not managed since leaving Ipswich Town in 2011, has received endorsements from Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt, Gary Pallister, and Bryan Robson.

Speaking on the Stick to Football podcast in 2023, Keane expressed openness to a coaching return, saying, 'I'd like to go back in, yeah... I think it's just the challenge of getting back in.' However, he has distanced himself from a United comeback and recently backed Newcastle boss Eddie Howe for the role, praising his calmness and track record.

Keane's comments on Sky Sports about Ferguson 'hanging on like a bad smell' may have alienated him at Old Trafford, though co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has already reduced Ferguson's role. Caretaker Darren Fletcher currently leads the team, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Michael Carrick also in contention.
