Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has hit back at Wayne Rooney's suggestion that his 'legs have gone', insisting he still has much to give. The Egypt international, 33, is set to leave Anfield at the end of the season after a campaign in which he has scored just seven Premier League goals, a sharp decline from last term's title-winning exploits.
Rooney, the former Manchester United striker, said on his show: 'I've said this since the start of the season, age gets to us all and your legs go. I think that's happened to Salah this season.' But Salah, speaking to Steven Gerrard for TNT Sports, countered: 'I feel good, body wise I feel all right. I didn't become old overnight. Last season I had this incredible season, I think I have a lot to give.'
The 33-year-old, who is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury and will miss Sunday's clash with United, remains upbeat about his physical condition. 'Honestly, physically I feel I have a lot to give,' he added. 'I played many games this season. Physically, I feel fine, I feel what I did over the years paid off.'
Salah's future beyond this summer is uncertain, with a year left on his contract and a mutual agreement to seek pastures new. Linked with a move to Saudi Arabia or European clubs, he said: 'I haven't decided what I am going to do yet, I have a lot of good options. I will see what is best for me.' He also confirmed his injury is healing well and hopes to return before the final day against Brentford.
