Cristiano Ronaldo has dramatically ended his international career, walking away from the Portugal squad in the middle of the current international break.
The 41-year-old Al-Nassr striker walked out after a hastily arranged crisis meeting with Portugal manager Jorge Jesus on Wednesday, following his fury at being left on the bench in the 2-1 win over Norway.
Talks break down
The talks did not go well, and Ronaldo has now left the national team setup.
In a statement on Instagram, Ronaldo wrote: "After the press conference of the national team, and following a conversation with the President of the Portuguese Football Federation, I have decided to leave the national team."
He added: "In time, I will tell all the Portuguese the truth about the reasons that motivated me to leave the national team, to which I always devoted myself. Now is the time to wish Portugal and all my teammates good luck, without exception."
International career ends
The decision brings to an end Ronaldo's storied international career, which has seen him become one of the most decorated players in football history.
