Aston Villa forward Morgan Rogers has publicly endorsed Michael Carrick for the interim manager role at Manchester United, praising the former Middlesbrough boss for his influence on Rogers' early career. Carrick, who coached Rogers during the 2023/2024 season at Middlesbrough, is among the candidates being considered to take temporary charge at Old Trafford, alongside Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Rogers highlighted Carrick's communication skills and personal approach, stating: 'Michael Carrick, he was the coach that spoke to me away from football. There was always a line of communication with him which I thought was vital at the time. I still speak to him now.' The 22-year-old credited Carrick with helping him develop resilience during a difficult period of loan spells before joining Middlesbrough.
Reports suggest that discussions have taken place with both Carrick and Solskjaer about a potential return to Manchester United, possibly as part of the same coaching team. The pair previously worked together at United, with Carrick serving on Solskjaer's coaching staff during his tenure as manager.
Carrick began his managerial career with a short caretaker stint at United in 2021 before taking the head coach role at Middlesbrough in 2022. He recorded 63 victories at the Riverside Stadium but failed to secure promotion and left the club in the summer of 2025. Meanwhile, Darren Fletcher is currently serving as interim manager, overseeing Wednesday's 2-2 draw with Burnley and set to lead the team for Sunday's FA Cup clash against Brighton.
