Trainer Ben Pauling disclosed that The Jukebox Man developed a significant muscle problem shortly after his eighth-place finish at Cheltenham, which now threatens to prematurely end his current racing season. "He was fine the day after the Gold Cup, but then became noticeably lame on his near-fore," Pauling explained. "The chiropractic and massage teams have assessed him, and he has badly pulled his bicep and pectoral muscles. It's a complete mystery how this occurred, as he was perfectly sound the previous day."

Pauling speculated that the injury might have resulted from the horse getting cast in his stable, though the exact cause remains unclear. He emphasised that, combined with the planned soft palate tightening procedure, it was remarkable The Jukebox Man performed as well as he did at Cheltenham. "The dream was alive for much of the race before it came crashing down," Pauling reflected, highlighting the horse's determination despite these underlying issues.

Despite the setback, Pauling has not entirely ruled out a run in the Ladbrokes Punchestown Gold Cup on April 29th. "We still have time if he recovers fully to target Punchestown," he stated. However, he acknowledged the strong temptation to rest the horse for the remainder of the season to ensure a proper recovery.
Pauling elaborated on the strategic considerations: "I would love another run this season, if only to test him over three miles again, as it could inform our campaign planning for next year. But I will absolutely ensure he is in peak condition before racing again. I refuse to risk a horse that tries so hard by entering him into battles when he's not fully prepared to perform at his best."
