Jamie Redknapp has criticised Liverpool for their 'amateur' decision not to replace the injured Joe Gomez promptly during their 3-2 defeat to Bournemouth. The former Liverpool star spoke on Sky Sports after the match, highlighting a seven-minute delay in making a substitution after Gomez went down.
Bournemouth's second goal came while Liverpool were down to ten men, with Gomez off the pitch and Wataru Endo not yet brought on. Redknapp described the situation as 'staggering' and said it was 'not good enough' for a club of Liverpool's stature.
Liverpool had fought back from two goals down with strikes from Virgil van Dijk and Dominik Szoboszlai, but Amine Adli scored in stoppage time to secure victory for the Cherries. The defeat leaves Liverpool in fourth place in the Premier League, just one point ahead of Manchester United.
Redknapp also criticised the players for not taking responsibility, saying they should have got the ball out of play to allow a substitution. He urged Endo to get on the pitch quickly, stating that if he had been on earlier, the goal would not have happened.
