Coronation Street fans have been making a complaint after Bethany Platt's pregnancy was revealed, following their earlier prediction that she'd end up pregnant with Kit Green's baby.
As those who follow the ITV soap, which is filmed in Salford, know Bethany's mum, Sarah Platt, is currently behind bars after being arrested for the murder of Theo Silverton in scenes aired earlier this year, and the case will be seen going to trial in scenes airing this week.
Despite his efforts to protect her from a life behind bars, Sarah confessed to killing Theo, claiming self-defence, and has since dumped Kit in a bid to spare him from the ordeal, as he faced losing his career for her, and she faces the rest of her life behind bars.
Kit's secret diagnosis and one-night stand
In the aftermath of the split, Kit was seen drinking more and pushing away those who care about him. But what they didn't know at the time was that, as well as losing Sarah, he had also been shaken by an unexpected breast cancer diagnosis in another hard-hitting health storyline for the long-running show.
It was during the time he was keeping his diagnosis a secret that Kit ended up sleeping with Bethany. In the scenes aired in September, Corrie viewers were initially left to wonder with whom Kit had a romantic encounter. After he was seen at No.8 on a date with Jodie Ramsey, which saw her older sister, and Kit's former fling, Shona Platt, gatecrash.
As the episodes ended, Kit was seen back at the flat alone, emerging from his bedroom where a wine glass sat abandoned with lipstick marks on it. He was seen stopping the music on a record player before moving to the sofa, hinting at a romantic encounter.
It was in the following episode that it was revealed that Bethany was the one with whom Kit had slept. Meeting in a dark alleyway, Kit was heard saying, "We slept together, and it was a massive mistake, so stop calling me and stop texting me," before Bethany appeared. She hit back: "Oh, right, so now you want me to leave you alone. Why didn't you say that last night?"
Pregnancy confirmed in Tuesday's episode
Weeks on and while Kit's cancer diagnosis is out in the open among his family, Bethany and his colleague, DS Lisa Swain-Connor, it now appears that Bethany is going to be the one holding a secret, as in Tuesday's (October 13) episode of Corrie, it was confirmed that she is pregnant.
Bethany had earlier been seen encouraging Kit to tell her mum the truth about his diagnosis before she appeared in court, but he refused. Later, in the café, her new love interest, Ryan Connor, praised her for always putting her family first, leaving Bethany having to mask her guilt over her one-night stand with Kit.
Bethany then headed to see Sarah with Todd Grimshaw, where the latter accidentally let slip about Kit's cancer, as she spoke of her upset at her ex not being willing to help her get off a possible murder charge. During the visit, Bethany appeared to suffer a funny turn, with the pressure of her mum's imprisonment and her request for her to look after her little brother, Harry, seemingly getting too much.
However, later that evening, having gotten into an argument with Kit, which scuppered her planned date with Ryan, Bethany was seen leaving the bathroom holding a pregnancy test. Sitting on the sofa, she spoke to Ryan on the phone as she looked at the result, quietly horrified to discover that she was pregnant.
Fans react to the twist
And the scenes quickly got Corrie fans talking, with many annoyed that they may have 'who's the daddy?' storyline on their hands. @SwarlaDaily asked: "Bethany is pregnant, and I have a question. Is it Kit's baby, or did she sleep with Ryan too? #Swarla #Corrie." @KatieJukesy said: "Guess were getting a who's the daddy storyline with Ryan and Kit. Bethany about to tell Ryan it's his, he becomes excited about it and then comes the Kit Kaboom. Typical soap tbf."
@pinaatti_ complained: "So Bethany is pregnant... Very classic soap move, but also can't the writers come up with anything else? They did this same exact story with Daisy, Kit and Daniel just over a year ago, and now they are doing it again with Kit being a part of it..." @SwainsCoat quipped: "If I had a penny for every time Kit Green was a part of a "who's the daddy storyline" I'd have 2p, which isn't a lot but it's weird it's happened twice."
However, @messasaurusjess argued: "I don't feel like this Bethany pregnancy is setting up a "who's the daddy" storyline between Ryan and Kit, otherwise they would have made it clear Bethany and Ryan slept together #Corrie I think it's setting up a "oh no, I slept with my mom's ex while she was in prison and now I'm pregnant right as she's being released" storyline between Kit/Bethany/Sarah."
@DrSwarla2025 also suggested: "It will focus on Kit having chemo which leaves him with fertility issues and whether Bethany keeps the baby or not." @pinaatti_ replied: "Oh! Hadn't even thought of that possible aspect! That would be quite interesting actually. And at least when Mick was around, there was a scene where it seemed like Kit could want another biological child of his own, which of course could have changed after bonding with Brody but still."
