Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the co-owner of Manchester United, will face no disciplinary action from the Football Association following controversial comments he made about immigration. The FA instead issued a reminder of his responsibilities as a participant in football after the 73-year-old billionaire said in an interview that the United Kingdom had been “colonised by immigrants”.
Ratcliffe’s remarks drew widespread condemnation, including from Prime Minister Keir Starmer. The Ineos businessman subsequently issued an apology. The FA launched an investigation but has now concluded that no formal charge is necessary.
Manchester United distanced themselves from Ratcliffe’s comments, issuing a statement describing the club as “welcoming and inclusive”. Head coach Michael Carrick reinforced that message, saying the club is proud of its culture of equality and diversity. “I have travelled the world and know what this club means to an awful lot of people,” Carrick said. “We try to carry that out every day.”
