Rangers' Kim Minsu dropped to South Korea U21s squad

Rangers defender Kim Minsu has been omitted from South Korea's senior squad for their upcoming matches against Qatar and Saudi Arabia, just a month after making his international debut. Instead, the Ibrox star has been included in the country's Under-21s squad for two friendlies against Mexico.

Kim made his senior international debut last month, featuring in three friendlies against Ecuador, Uruguay and Venezuela, and was an unused substitute against Uzbekistan. Despite that run, he has not been selected for the senior squad's games later this month.

Under-21s call-up and Olympic link

He has now been named in the Under-21s squad for two friendlies against Mexico. The squad doubles as South Korea's Olympic team for the football section of the Games in two years' time in Los Angeles.

South Korea Under-21s boss Kim Eun-joong said: "This is a good opportunity to gain practical experience against a strong team Mexico. We will identify areas for improvement and take our competitiveness up a level."

Fixtures against Mexico

Kim will travel to his homeland for the two games against the Mexicans at Cheonan on November 14, with a rematch against the same opponents three days later at the same venue.
