Prince William has expressed a heartfelt wish for his eldest son, Prince George, following an emotional trip to Istanbul. The 43-year-old travelled to Turkey on May 20 to watch his beloved Aston Villa in the Europa League final against SC Freiburg, marking the team's first European final in 44 years.
Speaking to TNT Sports, William revealed that his love for football and Aston Villa has been passed down to his three children, particularly George. He shared a rare personal hope for the 12-year-old, saying: 'I thought, it’s been 43 years since anything like this has happened in my generation as a Villa fan, and I want George to experience a night out away from home in a big European competition.'
The future King, who attended the match without his family, emphasised the importance of creating memories. He added: 'I hope it's not 43 years until the next time it happens, but I think those memories are really important to create and to bring him along tonight is a big deal for me.'
William has often been seen with Prince George at football matches, though the young royal was not present in Istanbul as it was a school night. George did attend Aston Villa's match against Paris Saint-Germain in April 2025. Princess Charlotte also joined her father for a game last year, appearing at the UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 final between England and Spain in July.
