Prince William and George Watch Villa at Camp Nou

Prince William and Prince George attended Aston Villa's Champions League match against Barcelona at Camp Nou this evening, with the royal pair seated in the stadium's VIP box.

The two royals were surrounded by a crowd of over 80,000 as the Midlands team took on their Spanish hosts. Barcelona received formal confirmation of the royal pair's attendance ahead of the fixture, Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo reported.

Royal Welcome at the Stadium

In a social media post, FC Barcelona's account wrote: "FC Barcelona is honoured to welcome His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales and His Royal Highness Prince George to the Spotify Camp Nou. Thank you for joining us for a special evening of Champions League football featuring your beloved Aston Villa."

William, who famously supports Aston Villa, has often travelled across Europe to watch his team when his busy schedule of royal engagements allows. The future king was also present at Villa Park last month.

Not George's First European Away Day

This evening's trip to Europe was not Prince George's first European away day with his father. In 2025, Prince George accompanied William to Paris to watch Villa compete in the Champions League quarter-finals.

William has spoken about how he came to support Aston Villa, reports Daily Mail. In a 2015 BBC interview, he explained that his schoolmates largely backed Manchester United or Chelsea, prompting him to seek something different.

"I wanted to have a team that was more middle of the table; that could give me the more emotional rollercoaster moments," he said.

William's Connection to the Club

"Aston Villa's always had a great history. I have got friends of mine who support Aston Villa and one of the first FA Cup games I went to was Bolton v Aston Villa back in 2000. Sadly, Villa went on to lose to Chelsea (in the final)," he added.

"It was fantastic, I sat with all the fans with my red beanie on, and I was with all the Brummie fans and had a great time. It was the atmosphere, the camaraderie and I really felt that there was something I could connect with."

The occasion is a chance for Prince George to spend time with his father after being away at Eton.
