Ange Postecoglou has insisted Tottenham Hotspur possess the quality to avoid relegation from the Premier League, despite a 3-0 home defeat to Nottingham Forest leaving them just one point above the drop zone. The former Spurs manager described the club's plight as a 'hell of a fight' and admitted watching Sunday's match was an 'uncomfortable watch'.
Tottenham's interim head coach Igor Tudor has struggled to deliver consistent results since replacing Thomas Frank last month, with rumours of an imminent departure. The club have seven games remaining, including fixtures against European-chasing sides Brighton, Aston Villa, Chelsea and Everton, as well as a crucial relegation six-pointer at home to Leeds United.
Speaking to Melbourne-based radio station SEN 1116, Postecoglou said: 'To watch them struggle has not been easy and it's not the way I thought it would go. They're in a hell of a fight, relegation is massive for any club but for Tottenham, it's a pretty big deal. They have some fighting to do and they have the quality to get out. They need a circuit-breaker for sure.'
The Australian, who managed Spurs before departing last year, added that he remains invested in the club due to his connections with players and staff. 'If you had have told me in May last year that this would be the scenario of watching two teams I have managed in the last calendar year I would have said 'no that's beyond the realms of possibility',' he said.
