Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has vowed to continue signing the 'best players' amid ongoing speculation linking Manchester City star Erling Haaland with a move to the Bernabeu. The Norwegian striker, who boasts a remarkable 161 goals in 196 appearances for City, has frequently been mentioned as a potential target for Los Blancos.
Speaking about the club's transfer strategy, Perez stated: 'Well of course. There have always been signings, we have always signed the best. I have signed Figo, Kaka, Ronaldo 'Il Fenomeno', Beckham... When there is a good one, I go for him.' However, he remained tight-lipped when asked specifically about Haaland, adding: 'Haaland? I do not give an opinion on that. It is a job for the sporting management, I do not get involved in the sporting management.'
Haaland signed a new contract with City in 2025, which reportedly removed any release clause that could have facilitated a move to Madrid. Despite this, transfer rumours have persisted. His agent, Rafaela Pimenta, recently provided insight into the forward's character and the negotiations with City. Speaking to ESPN, she said: 'Very serious, they're [City] very organised. They're very big. They know what they're doing, they have a lot of experience, they don't really need anything, they have everything. So we don't have any leverage.'
Pimenta also described Haaland's personality: 'He's a lot like us [football agents]. In his way of being -- it's very informal, very comfortable, very relaxed, very low profile... football, for him, is the most serious game you can play.' She added: 'I think people often have the impression that the football player's job is easier than it actually is. I often say that high-performance football players have to be very intelligent, so don't underestimate the intelligence of those at the top of the pyramid. He has to be very dedicated.'
Haaland has enjoyed another stellar campaign for City this season, netting 37 goals across all competitions. Manager Pep Guardiola opted to rest him for the recent 3-0 victory over Crystal Palace. Perez's comments reaffirm Real Madrid's ambition to secure top talent, though a move for Haaland remains uncertain given his long-term commitment to City.
