A family-owned amusement park in Pennsylvania has been named the best in the United States, beating out Disney and Universal theme parks. Knoebels Amusement Resort in Elysburg took the top prize in TripAdvisor's 'Best of the Best' list, earning a 4.7 rating from nearly 3,000 reviews.
According to TripAdvisor, Knoebels is 'America's largest free-admission amusement park' and offers roller coasters, kid-friendly rides, swimming, camping, a mining museum, and an 18-hole golf course. The park has been family-owned and operated since 1926.
Knoebels celebrated the honour on social media, and fans expressed no surprise. The American Coaster Enthusiasts for Eastern Pennsylvania wrote, 'We knew it all along.' The park features over 100 rides, including the popular Impulse roller coaster with upside-down twists and a 90-degree free fall, and the classic wooden Phoenix coaster, originally opened in Texas in 1947 and reborn at Knoebels in 1985.
For those seeking gentler attractions, the park offers antique car rides and the Grand Carousel, where winners of a game get a free turn. Dollywood in Tennessee took second place, followed by Disney's Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios, and Universal's Islands of Adventure rounding out the top five.
