Scott Pendlebury, the legendary Collingwood Magpies midfielder, has confirmed he will wear 11 gold numbered jerseys during his record-breaking 433rd AFL match on Saturday. The 38-year-old is set to surpass North Melbourne great Brent 'Boomer' Harvey for the most AFL games played when Collingwood hosts the West Coast Eagles at the MCG.
Jersey Distribution Plan
Speaking on the Ausmerican Aces Podcast, Pendlebury clarified earlier reports suggesting he might wear 12 jerseys. 'There'll be one jumper I have to give to the AFL,' he said. 'The club gets four that they can put in archives, museum, or whatever they want. Then I get what's left, which will be going to family: mum and dad, one each for my kids, one to both my brothers, and that's it.'
A Career of Excellence
Drafted with the No. 5 pick in 2005, Pendlebury has been a cornerstone of the Magpies for 22 seasons, amassing 432 games. His accolades include two AFL premierships, the 2010 Norm Smith Medal, six All-Australian selections, five Copeland Trophy wins, and the club's games record. He also holds multiple honours for leadership and Anzac Day performances.
Pendlebury's milestone match has been a topic of discussion, with some controversy surrounding the jersey count. However, he remains focused on the game. His boots for the occasion will feature custom designs by his children: one by his son Jax and another by his daughter Darcy.
The match kicks off at the MCG on Saturday afternoon, where Pendlebury will etch his name into AFL history.
