Patrick Reed Announces PGA Tour Return After LIV Golf Departure
Patrick Reed Leaves LIV Golf to Rejoin PGA Tour

In a significant development for professional golf, former Masters champion Patrick Reed has confirmed his departure from the LIV Golf circuit and announced his intention to return to the PGA Tour.

Reed's Journey Back to Traditional Golf

The 2018 Masters winner, who joined the breakaway LIV Golf tour in 2022, revealed his decision through a detailed social media statement. Reed expressed his desire to compete once again in what he described as the "traditional" tournaments around the world, marking a notable shift in his professional career trajectory.

Following in Koepka's Footsteps

Reed becomes the latest high-profile golfer to make the transition back to the PGA Tour, following the path previously taken by fellow major champion Brooks Koepka. His return will be facilitated through the PGA Tour's newly established Returning Player Program, designed to accommodate players seeking reinstatement after periods away from the traditional tour structure.

In his personal statement, Reed explained: "After careful thought and consideration, my family and I have decided that I will no longer compete on the LIV Golf Tour. I am excited to announce that I am returning to the PGA Tour as a past champion member for the 2027 season and am eligible to begin competing in PGA Tour events later this year."

A Traditionalist at Heart

The golfer emphasized his connection to the traditional golf circuit, stating: "I'm a traditionalist at heart, and I was born to play on the PGA Tour, which is where my story began with my wife, Justine. I am very fortunate for the opportunities that have come my way and grateful for the life we have created."

Reed also confirmed he will maintain his involvement with the DP World Tour, adding: "I will continue to compete and play as an Honorary Lifetime Member on the DP World Tour, which is something that I am truly honored and excited to do."

PGA Tour Confirms Reinstatement Process

Meanwhile, the PGA Tour has issued its own statement regarding Reed's planned return. The organization confirmed that the nine-time PGA Tour winner is formally seeking reinstatement of his membership for the 2027 season, with plans to play out of the past champion category.

The PGA Tour statement explained: "Patrick Reed has informed the PGA Tour of his desire to return. As a result of resigning his membership in 2022 prior to violating any PGA Tour Regulations, Patrick is eligible to compete on the PGA Tour as a non-member beginning on August 25, 2026. He may also pursue improved PGA Tour status via the DP World Tour."

Reflecting on Personal Growth

In his announcement, Reed reflected on his time away from the PGA Tour, stating: "Over the last four years, I have learned a lot about myself, about who I am and who I am not, and for that I am forever grateful." He expressed enthusiasm about returning to familiar venues, saying: "I can't wait to get back out there and revisit some of the best places on earth."

The golfer concluded with forward-looking optimism: "I am moving forward in my career, and I look forward to competing on the PGA Tour and DP World Tour. I want to thank everyone involved for helping me make this decision."

This development represents another chapter in the evolving relationship between established golf tours and the newer LIV Golf circuit, with Reed's decision highlighting the ongoing movement of players between these competing organizations.
