Ronnie O’Sullivan has launched a scathing attack on Alexandra Palace, describing the venue for the Masters as “disgusting and dirty”. The seven-time champion said the conditions made him feel ill, complaining about the cold and unclean surroundings.
Speaking after his 6-3 victory over Barry Hawkins, the 48-year-old said he had to wear his coat everywhere and found the place “freezing”. O’Sullivan, a self-confessed clean freak, added that the venue gave him the “heebie-jeebies” and he could not wait to leave.
The World Snooker Tour responded by noting that other players have spoken with “unanimous positivity” about the venue, which has hosted the Masters since 2012. O’Sullivan will face Shaun Murphy in the semi-final on Saturday.
In Friday’s action, defending champion Judd Trump was knocked out by Ali Carter after a thrilling quarter-final. Carter, who trailed 5-4, produced a 43 clearance to force a decider, then sealed victory with a break of 64.
Carter, who had led 4-2 before Trump fought back, said he was delighted to hold himself together in the deciding frame. The 44-year-old advanced to only his second Masters semi-final in 13 attempts.
