Osula: Newcastle Life Goes On After £244m Departures

William Osula insists there is plenty of life at Newcastle United after the summer exits of Anthony Gordon, Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali, and he is confident he can fill the void left by the departed frontman.

The Magpies collected £244m for the trio, with Bruno and Tonali heading to London and Gordon securing a move to Barcelona. Head coach Matthias Jaissle has spoken of a "vacuum" left in the dressing room, but Osula believes the departures have created opportunities that were not there before.

Seizing the Opportunity

Osula scored his first goal of the season in the 2-0 win at Crystal Palace and will look to add to the five goals he managed in the final seven Premier League matches last season. At that time, he was seen as the man to step in for Gordon, who had downed tools to preserve himself for the move to the Nou Camp.

Asked if he now had the chance to fill the void left by others at Newcastle, Osula said: "Yes, absolutely. It's really nice to have the opportunity now to play and be able to show what I can do on the field over a period of time."

"So it's really nice, and I'm really happy with that. Can we surprise a few people? Yes, anyone can do that. We just have to keep working hard and keeping our heads down, take it game by game, and hopefully something like that can happen."

European Push and Cup Hopes

Having climbed into the European places in the Premier League thanks to goals from Osula and Harvey Barnes, another beneficiary of Gordon's exit, Newcastle's season now hinges on a double header against Everton in the Premier League and Carabao Cup.

A place in the quarter-finals is up for grabs on Thursday, before the chance to climb further up the table to the top six if they beat the Toffees next week at St James' Park.

An excited Osula said: "Every game is important. Every game you need to go into with the winning mentality, wanting to win. So that's what we need to do, like we did at Palace, and focus on the next game."

Wembley Ambitions

Osula was part of the Eddie Howe squad that won the Carabao Cup in 2025 and savoured the Wembley celebrations despite not getting on the field. Now he is keen to experience it again, this time with a starring role.

The Denmark international said: "Obviously, everyone wants to play in finals of big tournaments and competitions. It would be lovely to do that as well in the future. So absolutely, that's something I want to do."

"I'm just very happy to be back. Thank God I'm back from injury now. It's been a tough period, but I'm happy to be back with the team, and being able to help the team do well and help us get a really important with the win."
