Liverpool teenager Trey Nyoni believes the side must learn from their 3-2 Champions League defeat at Fenerbahce as they continue to struggle to deliver full 90-minute performances.
The Reds twice led in Istanbul, through Nyoni's first senior goal and a strike from substitute Alexander Isak, before eventually losing. Isak scored in the 69th minute, marking the latest Liverpool had taken the lead in a European game in which they went on to lose.
Set-piece problems
All three Fenerbahce goals came from set-pieces, with sloppy defending from a Liverpool side that has now conceded three times in each of their last three Champions League matches.
Speaking after the match, Nyoni said: "We knew it was going to be a difficult night. Coming away to Turkey, it's hard, the environment we're in, the crowd, the atmosphere, we knew it wasn't going to be easy."
"We are disappointed. I think we had the game and then had lapses of concentration. All the goals we conceded, I said before the game football at this level is about fine margins. If you don't concentrate then you get punished."
Consistency needed
Nyoni added: "In the first half and second half we started really well, but the next step for us as a team is to be more consistent over the 90 and see out wins. It's another lesson that we need to build on."
Having lost to Arsenal at the weekend, Liverpool will look to avoid a third successive defeat when they travel to Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Sunday.
"The mentality of the team is top," said Nyoni. "Obviously we've had a couple of setbacks but a good team bounces back and on Sunday we have to do even better than we were today, and if we do that we'll be able to win."
First senior goal
Nyoni's goal, his first for the club on his 32nd appearance, gave Liverpool a first-half lead and made him the second-youngest scorer for the club in European competition after Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Speaking to LFC TV, the 19-year-old said: "I'm proud and I know my family back home are proud. It has been a long time coming but I'm happy to score my first goal for Liverpool. Even though we lost, it's a day I'll never forget."
