Noa Lang has undergone surgery on a serious thumb injury sustained during Galatasaray's 4-0 Champions League defeat to Liverpool at Anfield. The 26-year-old winger collided with advertising hoardings late in the match, suffering a deep cut that required oxygen and a stretcher to leave the pitch.
Lang was operated on at Whiston Hospital in Liverpool and shared a photo on Instagram showing his hand in a cast, captioned: 'Surgery went well! Thanks for all the messages.' He had earlier posted: 'S*** happens.'
Galatasaray teammate Victor Osimhen also suffered a fractured forearm in the same match. The two players shared a Facetime call, with Lang posting a screenshot of them grinning and holding up their casts, writing 'twin' with a heart emoji.
Galatasaray have threatened legal action against UEFA over the incident. Club general secretary Eray Yazgan said: 'We made a complaint to UEFA representatives after the match. They also made their investigations. UEFA will evaluate the issue. We are in talks with lawyers. We will file a lawsuit for compensation to UEFA.'
A club statement confirmed Lang's surgery was planned in Liverpool with the medical team present, while Osimhen's fracture was casted and a decision on surgery will be made in the coming days.
