Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has revealed that the club has not entered into contract negotiations with Alexander Isak, despite the Swedish striker's impressive performances last season.
Speaking ahead of the new Premier League campaign, Howe admitted that while Isak remains a key part of his plans, no formal discussions about extending the 24-year-old's deal have taken place.
'He's been fantastic for us,' Howe told reporters. 'But at this moment, we haven't sat down to talk about contracts. That's something that may happen in the future.'
The comments come amid growing speculation about Isak's future at St James' Park, with several top European clubs reportedly monitoring the situation.
Isak's Impact at Newcastle
Since joining from Real Sociedad in 2022 for a club-record fee, Isak has established himself as one of the Premier League's most exciting forwards. Last season, he netted 21 goals in all competitions, forming a formidable partnership with Callum Wilson.
His performances have not gone unnoticed, with Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain both linked with moves for the Swedish international.
Newcastle's Summer Plans
Howe's revelation about Isak's contract situation comes as Newcastle look to strengthen their squad ahead of their return to European competition. The Magpies are believed to be in the market for at least one new forward, regardless of Isak's future.
The club's Saudi-backed owners have shown willingness to invest heavily in the squad, but must now balance Financial Fair Play regulations with their ambitions to challenge for Champions League qualification.
For now, Newcastle fans will be hoping their star striker remains at St James' Park as the club prepares for what could be a pivotal season in their development.
