Moyes: Man United played best football of season vs Everton

Everton head coach David Moyes has said Manchester United played their best football of the season so far in Sunday's thrilling 2-2 draw at Goodison Park.

After a goalless first half, United took the lead after the break when Bryan Mbeumo collected the ball on the right, cut inside and curled a finish into the far corner.

United struggled to create further clear chances and were punished when Tyrique George was given a yard of space on the right-hand side of the box and fired into the roof of the net to make it 1-1.

The Reds looked to have won it in the 88th minute when substitute Benjamin Sesko headed home from Luke Shaw's fine cross. However, with the last chance of the game, Ainsley Maitland-Niles curled in a superb effort to ensure the points were shared.

Moyes: We did well to ride their pressure

Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, Moyes said: "For periods we played well. I thought Man United played better than they have done in their other games.

"The first goal we concede is shabby. But I thought if anyone was going to go on and win the game after we equalises it would be us."

He added: "I set out to win. For us, to give the crowd moments, it was a big moment. But I wanted to win and I thought we were capable of winning. I need to win my home games."

"You don't plan as a manager to equalise in the last minute. But I thought the boys did amazing to keep running. We did well to ride their pressure and we got the great finish to end."

United's season so far

United have one win, one draw and one defeat to start the season. In his post-match press conference, Michael Carrick was asked why the Reds had not yet hit the heights of last season, to which he responded: "We haven't started the season that bad, to be honest."

United must now prepare for their return to the Champions League on Thursday night, hosting Sabah FK in midweek before the Manchester derby at Old Trafford on Sunday.
