Walid Regragui has insisted his Morocco team can go further after becoming the first African and Arab nation to reach a World Cup semi-final. The Atlas Lions stunned Portugal 1-0 in Qatar on Saturday, with Youssef En-Nesyri's first-half header securing a historic victory.
Morocco have already toppled Belgium, Croatia, Spain and Portugal en route to the last four. Regragui, who has been in charge for just eight matches, believes his side can continue to defy expectations and even reach the final.
'What's important for future generations is we've shown that it is possible for an African team to get to the semi-finals of the World Cup. Or even the final, why not?' Regragui said. 'European countries are used to winning the World Cup, so we're going to have to try and get in there, and go beyond ourselves.'
Goalkeeper Yassine Bounou echoed his coach's sentiments, saying: 'As our coach said, we're here to change the mentality. This feeling of inferiority, we need to get rid of it. The generation coming after us will now know that Moroccan players can create miracles.'
Morocco will face either France or England in Wednesday's semi-final as they bid to become the first African team to reach a World Cup final.
