Furyk Eyes Woods Role for 2027 Ryder Cup Despite DUI

US Ryder Cup captain Jim Furyk has expressed his desire to involve Tiger Woods in the 2027 contest at Adare Manor, despite Woods' recent DUI arrest. Furyk, who previously served alongside Woods as a vice-captain, plans to reach out to the golf icon once his recovery is complete.

Woods is currently undergoing treatment in Switzerland after being charged with driving under the influence following a car crash near his Florida home in March. Police found prescription opioid hydrocodone pills in his possession, which Woods used for pain management after multiple surgeries.

Furyk stated he has not contacted Woods out of respect for his recovery but intends to discuss a potential role. 'We haven’t spoken yet. I think, out of kind of courtesy for him and his family and I know maybe a road to health, I haven’t reached out but I will,' Furyk said. 'Definitely. We’ll see where that role may fall.'

Reflecting on their past collaborations, Furyk praised Woods' contributions. 'I will say I enjoyed serving – I use that word serving – as a vice-captain with him a number of times. I think he brought a lot to the team room and a lot of knowledge and a lot of experience,' he added.

The US captain is keen to reclaim the Ryder Cup after consecutive European victories, with the next edition set for Ireland in 2027. Woods' involvement, even in an advisory capacity, could prove pivotal for the American side.
