Conor McGregor will return to the UFC octagon on 11 July in Las Vegas to face Max Holloway in a rematch, UFC president Dana White has announced. The former two-weight world champion has not fought since breaking his leg against Dustin Poirier in July 2021.
The Irishman will headline UFC 329 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, with the contest taking place at lightweight or welterweight. McGregor, 37, debuted with the promotion in 2013 and quickly became the sport's biggest star, holding both the featherweight and lightweight titles simultaneously in 2016.
McGregor's brash manner helped bring mixed martial arts into the mainstream. A boxing match against Floyd Mayweather Jr in 2017 earned him tens of millions of dollars, but he has only fought four times in MMA since winning the lightweight title in November 2016, losing three of those bouts.
McGregor was scheduled to face Michael Chandler in June 2024 but withdrew due to a broken toe. Later that year, a civil court in Ireland found him liable in a rape case. In October 2025, he accepted an 18-month ban for anti-doping whereabouts failures, which expired in March.
If the fight goes ahead, it will be five years and one day since his leg break against Poirier.
