Mbappe hails Osula after Newcastle striker's Palace heroics

Kylian Mbappe sent a two-word message to William Osula after the Newcastle United striker scored on his return to the starting line-up in the 2-0 win at Crystal Palace.

The 23-year-old Denmark forward made his first start since the opening-day draw with Liverpool and opened the scoring just after half-time with a cool finish from Jacob Murphy's cross. It was his first goal of the season.

Mbappe's praise

Osula celebrated his strike at Selhurst Park on social media, with teammates among those to congratulate him. Real Madrid and France striker Mbappe replied to Osula's message with the words: "World Class".

The goal was Osula's first of the season, and he will be looking to build on last campaign, when he ended it on a scoring streak with five goals in the final seven games.

Osula on his return

Osula is hoping to earn regular starts under new head coach Matthias Jaissle. Speaking to Chronicle Live, he said he was willing to play in any role his manager asked of him.

"I'm just here to play my job for the gaffer, wherever he wants me to play," he said. "So whichever job he gives me, I'm ready to go out there and help the lads get the three points, which is what we need to hit our target this season."

He added: "I'm very happy. Thank God I'm back from injury now. It's been a tough period, but I'm happy to be back with the team, and being able to help the team is really important to me, especially with the win."

Reflecting on the match, he said: "In the first half I was looking to see where the opportunities and chances were coming from, but not much came. So in the second half we came out with optimism and faith, knowing that if something's going to drop, we have to be alert and take it."
