Massimo Taibi's Manchester United Regret: 'I Made a Mistake Leaving'

The Italian shot-stopper, now 56 years old, reflected candidly on his brief but tumultuous time with the Red Devils, revealing that personal family issues in Italy drove his impulsive decision to exit.
A Costly Transfer and Early Promise
Taibi arrived at Manchester United in 1999 as a substantial £4.5 million signing from Venezia, tasked with filling the immense void left by legendary goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel. His debut against Liverpool at Anfield was a promising start, contributing to a thrilling 3-2 victory for United. However, this early success proved fleeting, as Taibi's tenure quickly unraveled following a notorious blunder against Southampton, where a soft Matt Le Tissier shot slipped between his legs.
