A soldier from the King’s Troop, Royal Horse Artillery has died after falling from their horse at the Royal Windsor Horse Show. The incident occurred at approximately 7pm on Friday, after the soldier had exited the arena following a display.
Despite receiving immediate medical treatment for serious injuries, the soldier died at the scene. Thames Valley Police have described the death as unexplained but not suspicious. An investigation is underway in collaboration with the Ministry of Defence and the Defence Accident Investigation Branch.
Chief Superintendent Michael Loebenberg expressed condolences and appealed for information. He stated, 'Our thoughts are with the soldier’s family and the wider community in the military and at the Royal Windsor Horse Show at this extremely difficult time.'
The Royal Windsor Horse Show is continuing as planned, but the King’s Troop, Royal Horse Artillery display has been omitted. Event director Jo Peck said, 'Our thoughts and sympathies are with the family of the soldier who sadly died yesterday.'
A Buckingham Palace spokesperson confirmed that King Charles was 'greatly shocked and saddened' by the news and will offer personal condolences to the family. An army spokesperson added, 'It is with deep regret that we announce a member of the King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery died... following a tragic incident.'
