Mason Mount is in contention to return to the Manchester United squad for Sunday's Premier League clash against Aston Villa, interim manager Michael Carrick has confirmed.
The midfielder has been sidelined for the last six matches after picking up a knock shortly after Carrick's appointment in January. Mount has managed just one minute of first-team football under the interim boss.
Speaking ahead of the game, Carrick said: 'Mason's back with the group, which is fantastic. He's an important player for us, and to have him back and involved is a good step. He's not 100 per cent back because he's only trained a very small amount of time, but we'll see if he's involved on Sunday.'
Since joining United from Chelsea in the summer of 2023, Mount's time at Old Trafford has been blighted by injuries, with only 29 starts and seven goals to his name.
Meanwhile, Noussair Mazraoui has returned to training after a knock, but the club remains without Lisandro Martinez, Matthijs de Ligt and Patrick Dorgu. Martinez has missed the last three games with a calf problem, while De Ligt has been out since late November with a back issue. Dorgu is recovering from a hamstring injury and is expected to return next month.
