Former Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has agreed in principle to replace Pep Guardiola as Manchester City manager, sources confirm. The Italian has agreed a three-year contract, with the move expected to be finalised after Guardiola's departure at the end of the season.
Guardiola will leave City following their final Premier League match against Aston Villa on Sunday, bringing an end to his nine-year tenure. The club are also planning a farewell parade on Monday to coincide with the women's team's potential title win.
Maresca previously served as Guardiola's assistant at City, making him a natural successor. His time at Chelsea ended in January after he held exploratory talks with City regarding the vacancy. He also led Leicester City to promotion in 2024 and won the Conference League and Club World Cup at Stamford Bridge.
Guardiola has spoken highly of Maresca, calling him 'one of the best managers in the world' and praising his work at Chelsea. Former City goalkeeper Willy Caballero, who worked with Maresca at Leicester and Chelsea, could join his coaching staff.
