Manchester United face a potential goalkeeping crisis after Andre Onana sustained a hamstring injury during training. The 29-year-old is now a doubt for the start of the club's pre-season programme, though initial assessments indicate he has responded well to treatment.
United plan for Onana to travel with the squad to the United States for the Premier League Summer Series against West Ham, Everton and Bournemouth. However, his participation in those matches remains uncertain as the club continues to evaluate his fitness.
United's pre-season begins with a friendly against Leeds United in Stockholm on 19 July, followed by a home fixture against Fiorentina on 9 August. They then open their Premier League campaign away to Arsenal on 17 August, with Onana having missed only four of United's 76 league games since his £42m move from Internazionale in 2023.
Manager Ruben Amorim can call upon Altay Bayindir and Tom Heaton, who signed a new one-year contract in June, as alternative options. It remains unclear whether United will enter the transfer market for a new goalkeeper, despite Onana's inconsistent form since arriving from Inter Milan.
The club also retains an interest in Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo, but have so far fallen short of the Bees' valuation. Amorim is eager to strengthen his squad after a difficult debut season at Old Trafford.
