Mainoo, 20, played his first full Premier League game of the season in Saturday's 2-0 derby win over Manchester City, impressing under interim manager Michael Carrick. The academy graduate's performance helped United climb to fifth in the table, vindicating Carrick's decision to start him.
Garnacho, meanwhile, scored a brace in a 37-minute cameo for Chelsea in their League Cup semi-final first-leg defeat to Arsenal. The winger's display reminded United fans of what they lost, though Patrick Dorgu's recent form in a similar role has softened the blow.
Garnacho's departure was also marred by public criticism of Amorim, including wearing Marcus Rashford's Aston Villa shirt on social media. Mainoo, however, appears to have rebuilt his career at Old Trafford under Carrick, with his derby display reinforcing his value to the club.
After the match, Mainoo posted a topless photo on social media with the caption 'Believe that', signalling his resurgence. Amorim's failure to prioritise the young talents now looks misguided as both players thrive elsewhere or under new management.
