Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has seen a potential £55m transfer collapse, with the club also facing questions over Alejandro Garnacho's fitness levels following his £40m move to Chelsea.
Amorim was keen to sign Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo and held face-to-face talks with the player over dinner in London at the end of last season. Chief executive Omar Berrada and transfer chief Jason Wilcox also engaged with the Cherries, but efforts failed as Semenyo signed a new contract.
Meanwhile, Garnacho's early struggles at Chelsea were revealed after he told club media: 'Can't move my legs now man… I sprinted in the last one.' The Argentine winger did not have a pre-season with United before his deadline-day switch, leaving him playing catch-up in west London.
Elsewhere, Brazil midfielder Casemiro escaped a red card during international duty despite stamping on Chile's Felipe Loyola. The incident, which drew only a yellow card, was deemed lucky by observers, though Casemiro appeared to apologise.
United have had a mixed start to the season, including a League Cup exit to Grimsby Town and a narrow win over Burnley, with discontent still simmering despite the £200m spent in the summer.
