Concerns are growing at Manchester United that captain Bruno Fernandes may seek a transfer, with his past departure from Udinese offering a worrying parallel. The 31-year-old playmaker left the Italian club after Francesco Guidolin's exit and a dip in team performance, mirroring current instability at Old Trafford.
Fernandes had a close bond with recently dismissed manager Ruben Amorim, now replaced temporarily by Michael Carrick until a permanent boss is appointed in the summer. The Portuguese international considered a move to the Saudi Pro League last summer but was convinced to stay by Amorim.
Reflecting on his time at Udinese, Fernandes said: 'The three years I spent at Udinese were not easy... we didn't have great campaigns, except for the first one... then in the second and third year they decided to change manager after so long with Guidolin, and it didn't go very well.' He credited Guidolin with maximising his abilities.
With 18 months left on his Manchester United contract plus a 12-month option, this summer could be pivotal. Bayern Munich are among clubs monitoring his situation, while United hope Carrick can keep Fernandes content.
