Manchester United have drawn up a three-man shortlist as they look to bolster their midfield this summer, according to reports. The Red Devils have missed out on several key targets, including Elliot Anderson, who joined Manchester City from Nottingham Forest for £116 million, and Aurelien Tchouameni, who is expected to stay at Real Madrid.
Alex Scott, the Bournemouth playmaker, was also a target but Chelsea have reportedly submitted a £64 million bid, and Bournemouth are adamant he is not for sale. United had been encouraged when Scott turned down a new contract but the Cherries' stance has forced them to look elsewhere.
The Guardian reports that the club now has a list of three alternatives: Roma's Manu Kone, Real Madrid's Eduardo Camavinga, and Fulham's Sander Berge. Kone is also a target for Arsenal, while Camavinga's future at Real Madrid is uncertain. Berge is a long-term target for United.
INEOS, United's owners, are believed to favour signing either Camavinga or Berge, though Camavinga is thought to be keen to stay in Spain. Reports in Spain suggest that Real Madrid may sell the Frenchman to raise funds for a move for Manchester City's Rodri, who is out of contract next year.
Camavinga is reportedly available for between £42 million and £51 million, with Berge commanding a similar fee. According to L'Equipe, United have made an approach for Kone, while Corriere dello Sport claims that personal terms have been agreed with the player.
United have already added Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans to their squad this summer, but further midfield reinforcements remain a priority for manager Michael Carrick.
