Manchester United's hopes of signing Bayern Munich forward Mathys Tel have collapsed, according to reports from Germany. The 19-year-old had chosen Old Trafford as his preferred destination, but negotiations with the Bundesliga club broke down over the structure of the deal. Bayern were said to be demanding a permanent transfer or a loan with an obligation to buy, terms United were unwilling to meet.
The Red Devils had been active on Sunday, unveiling new signings Patrick Dorgu and Ayden Heaven to fans. However, the failure to secure Tel leaves Ruben Amorim's squad short of attacking options, especially after Marcus Rashford's loan move to Aston Villa. Arsenal and other clubs remain interested in the French teenager, with the Gunners reportedly open to a deal including a purchase obligation.
Bayern teammate Harry Kane had advised Tel to prioritise game time in his next move. 'Mathys is a great young player. My advice is wherever he goes, he should make sure he gets game time and experience,' the England captain said. Tel had previously rejected Tottenham Hotspur in favour of a move to United, but that option now appears dead.
Meanwhile, Chelsea could still make a late move for Alejandro Garnacho, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. No negotiations are currently underway, but the Blues retain an interest in the Argentine winger. United may also explore a deal for Chelsea's Christopher Nkunku as a potential alternative to Tel. The transfer window closes on Monday night, leaving United with little time to secure reinforcements.
