Manchester United have pulled the plug on a transfer deadline day move for Tyrell Malacia, leaving the defender in 'disbelief' as he looks set for more months on the sidelines.
The 26-year-old, who joined from Feyenoord in 2022, has made just nine appearances for the Red Devils in the last two-and-a-half seasons due to injury and loss of form. He spent last season on loan at PSV and has only one substitute appearance this campaign.
Dutch publication Voetbal International report that Malacia was preparing to travel to Istanbul on Monday to complete a move, but director of football Jason Wilcox stepped in to block the deal after an injury to Patrick Dorgu. Teenager Harry Amass is also injured during his loan at Norwich, leaving Luke Shaw as the only fit left-back.
Malacia's contract expires at the end of the season, making him likely to leave on a free transfer in the summer. The club paid £13m for him in 2022.
Interim boss Michael Carrick confirmed Dorgu's injury, saying: 'Pat, unfortunately, he's going to be out for a period of time. We're still working through how long that's going to be. It's disappointing for all of us.'
