Manchester United are two points off the bottom of the Premier League, with one win from nine games, and sit outside the relegation zone only on goal difference. The club's dire run of form continued with a defeat at Chelsea on Saturday lunchtime, their fourth loss in five matches, and they have not won a game since the second week of September.
Ten Hag's Warning on Relegation
Former boss Erik ten Hag, the first to be sacked by the Ineos hierarchy, has said on the prospect of them going down: "In the Premier League it's certainly possible, because all the teams are simply strong."
He added: "They're all strong squads, all good managers. And if you end up on the wrong side once and you really get into that vicious circle - yes, then it can become very, very difficult."
A Historic Fall?
United, 13-time winners of the Premier League, are one of only six teams to have been present in the league since its inception. Few would have thought that the 15th-place finish they recorded in 2025, with just 42 points, could ever be topped, but Michael Carrick's side appear to be giving it a go.
Their relegation would be remarkable, given the club has continued to invest huge sums and remains one of the biggest in the world. It would arguably top Leicester's title win in terms of seismic shocks in English football.
