Manchester United slumped to a 3-0 defeat against Bournemouth at Old Trafford, a result that will almost certainly end Michael Carrick's tenure as manager. The loss follows a second desperate defeat in a matter of days.
How the match unfolded
United fell behind when Rayan capitalised on slack marking to fire home from a controversial free-kick. Five minutes later, a Leny Yoro slip allowed Bournemouth in again, and Marcus Tavernier doubled the advantage.
Carrick's side offered little response in the second half, and the game was effectively over when Evanilson took advantage of a lapse in judgement from Senne Lammens to make it three.
Player ratings
Senne Lammens: Not entirely convincing with the ball at his feet, and a lapse of judgement for the third when he raced out of his box and didn't get to the ball. 5
Leny Yoro: An excellent sliding clearance to deny Evanilson while the game was still goalless, but easy to manipulate when Bournemouth attacked, and his slip for the second goal was crucial. 4
Harry Maguire: One barnstorming first-half run briefly got the crowd involved, and his passing was okay, but he found it tough to lead a defence that has changed so much. 5
Ayden Heaven: A strange decision to move him back to centre-back, and he struggled as the pressure grew. Two really slack moments early in the second half. 3
Diogo Dalot: Nothing sums up the state of United in 2026 like the sight of Dalot playing at left-back. Struggled with the ball at his feet, some poor crosses, and a wild shot. 3
Carlos Baleba: Started the game dreadfully and looked nervous. Too many wayward passes and didn't win enough duels. Gone from the answer to part of the problem in a week. 4
Andrey Santos: Booked for another pretty desperate tackle in the first half, a third yellow in three games. Didn't use the ball well enough or find enough space to help with build-up. 4
Amad: Positive as a sub on Wednesday but a little tougher from the start here, although he was the player trying to make something happen when he did get on the ball. 6
Youri Tielemans: Passing very inconsistent in the first half, and a combination of Tielemans as the No. 10 and Mbeumo through the middle showed no signs of working. Didn't bring enough energy to the game. 5
Mason Mount: Played on the left wing, but it's not a position that suits him these days, and he struggled to have any kind of impact on the game. 5
Bryan Mbeumo: Forced a first-half save out of Petrovic and never stopped trying to find a way back into the game, but starved of service and not always ruthless enough. 6
Substitutes' impact
Matheus Cunha: Came on at half-time but could do little to turn the tide. Offering very little at the moment. 5
Lisandro Martinez: Showed some fight when he came on and had a shot on target. 6
Joshua Zirkzee: On before Fernandes, which says everything about what Carrick thinks of his captain. 5
Shea Lacey: Thrown on at 3-0 down and into an impossible position. 6
Subs not used: Darlow, Mazraoui, De Ligt, Fletcher, Fernandes.
