Chelsea should reconsider loaning out Marc Guiu after the 18-year-old striker's impressive pre-season performances, according to recent analysis. The Spain Under-19 international, who joined from Barcelona for £5.1 million last month, has been a standout in pre-season friendlies, including a strong showing against Inter Milan on Sunday.
In the 1-1 draw with Inter, Guiu started as the lone striker in a 4-3-3 system under new manager Enzo Maresca. Despite his youth, the 6ft 2ins forward bullied Inter's three centre-backs, particularly Francesco Acerbi, holding up play and creating chances. He forced a save from Yann Sommer with a downward volley and improvised to divert Marc Cucurella's effort goalwards.
Guiu also impressed in earlier pre-season matches, being one of the few positives in a 4-1 loss to Celtic and scoring a header in a 3-0 win over Club America. His performances come amid Chelsea's ongoing pursuit of a striker, with a move for Samu Omorodion collapsing and Victor Osimhen still a target.
The Blues had planned to loan Guiu out, possibly to a Championship side, but his form and the failed Omorodion deal may prompt a rethink. With Nicolas Jackson also competing for minutes, game time could be limited, but Guiu's pressing, hold-up play, and goal threat have made a strong case for him to stay.
