A Manchester United fan who vowed not to cut his hair until the club wins five consecutive matches is closing in on his goal after back-to-back Premier League victories. Frank Ilett, known as 'That Manchester United Fan With The Hair', began his challenge as a joke among friends before Ruben Amorim's arrival at Old Trafford. His daily social media updates gained traction due to United's inability to win more than one league game in a row under Amorim.
Ilett's unkempt locks have captured public imagination, even drawing an attack from a fellow fan at Old Trafford. The challenge reached a new level when Portuguese reporter raised it with United defender Diogo Dalot in a post-match interview. 'We hope that we can give him that haircut,' Dalot said, after United's 2-0 win over Liverpool on Sunday.
United captain Harry Maguire acknowledged the embarrassment of the team's inconsistency. 'It's not a stat that we should even be speaking about because it is an embarrassing stat to have,' he said. 'Now that's out of the way let's try and make it three [wins] on Saturday against Brighton.'
Meanwhile, Liverpool's losing streak continued, with Arne Slot's side suffering a fourth consecutive defeat. Slot refused to complain about a controversial moment in the buildup to United's first goal, where Virgil van Dijk accidentally clashed with teammate Alexis Mac Allister. 'I think the main thing I should do now is not complain, blame or do these kind of things,' Slot said.
In other news, former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp has 'theoretically' made himself available for a future return to the club, saying on a podcast: 'I said I will never coach another team, a different team, in England. So that means if then it's Liverpool … yeah, theoretically it's possible.'
