An electrician in Prenton has transformed his home into a haunted house featuring a giant skeleton bursting from the garden lawn, drawing attention from neighbours and passers-by.
Dean Simpson, 29, of Grosvenor Road, said the display grew organically after he bought the skeleton and people began commenting on it. "It all started when I bought the skeleton, and before I knew it people were commenting on it and I started adding to it and couldn't stop," he said.
From a single skeleton to a full haunted scene
Simpson, who said he had always wanted one of the large skulls from Costo, added a Frankenstein's monster, a clown, a miniature graveyard and extensive lights. "I wasn't expecting much attention over it, but when people started commenting on it I thought I couldn't just leave it at that," he explained.
He described Halloween as his favourite season, noting that British displays are typically more modest than those in America. "Halloween seems to be a States thing more than Britain. It does seem to be getting bigger than it used to be. There's a few houses with decorations in our area, but none quite so big," he said.
Residents react to the realistic display
While some have been scared, many have embraced the spectacle. "Some people have been a bit scared, but a lot of people have been taking pictures with their kids sitting on the wall. You don't see much like this, especially in the Prenton area. People are quite taken aback by how realistic some of it looks," Simpson said.
He expressed satisfaction with his work, adding: "I like what I've achieved. Some of the American displays are unbelievable. Maybe one day I'll be as good as them, but it's good enough for now."
Illuminated until Halloween night
The Halloween house on Grosvenor Road will be illuminated every night until Halloween on Saturday, October 31, when it will welcome trick or treaters.
