Former Liverpool and Germany midfielder Dietmar Hamann has advised Sunderland's Jobe Bellingham to consider a move to Borussia Dortmund over joining a Premier League club like Manchester United. The 51-year-old, who played for Bayern Munich and Newcastle United, believes the Bundesliga would be a better fit for the 19-year-old.
Speaking to PokerScout, Hamann said he would be surprised if Bellingham made a big Premier League switch this summer. He highlighted Dortmund's track record of developing young talent, including Jude Bellingham, Erling Haaland and Ousmane Dembele. 'For Jobe, Borussia Dortmund is the club with a record of helping players improve,' Hamann stated.
Hamann drew comparisons with Bellingham's older brother Jude, who joined Dortmund from Birmingham City and became one of the world's best midfielders. He warned against joining a top Premier League side, saying 'you could end up sitting on the bench for a season.'
However, former Sunderland defender Michael Gray has a different view, suggesting Bellingham could become one of Manchester United's best players. Gray pointed to Amad Diallo's successful loan spell at Sunderland and subsequent impact at Old Trafford as a precedent.
Bellingham has been linked with several clubs, including Manchester United and Crystal Palace, but his future remains uncertain. With opinions divided, the young midfielder faces a crucial decision this summer.
