Manchester United produced a sensational 3-2 comeback victory over Roma in the Champions League to end a nine-match winless run in all competitions. Matheus Cunha scored twice in the second half to complete the turnaround at Old Trafford.
Slow Start Costs United
United fell behind after just 11 minutes when Kobbie Mainoo was caught on the ball and Matias Soule finished past Senne Lammens. Soule was then brought down by Ayden Heaven's hand moments later, allowing Donyell Malen to double Roma's lead from the penalty spot.
Bruno Fernandes reduced the deficit with a retaken penalty after his first effort was saved, but Roma's defenders were judged to have encroached. The home side were booed off at half-time as the winless run threatened to stretch to 10 matches.
Second-Half Revival
Michael Carrick's side looked transformed after the interval. Cunha equalised following a defensive error by Roma and then added a second with a powerful run and finish that gave the goalkeeper no chance.
Cunha was shown a red card in stoppage time but had already secured the win. Youri Tielemans, introduced in the 50th minute after Carlos Baleba pulled up with an apparent hamstring injury, helped United keep the pressure on Roma with his composure on the ball.
Player Ratings
Senne Lammens was rated 6, with little he could do for either goal. Diogo Dalot received a 2 after being caught upfield for both Roma goals, while Leny Yoro, Harry Maguire and Ayden Heaven each earned 5.
Bruno Fernandes was given 6 for his second-half display and penalty, with Kobbie Mainoo also on 6 despite his costly mistake. Cunha was the standout performer with a 9, while Bryan Mbeumo struggled with a 4 and Amad received 5.
