Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has delivered a stark message to fans, revealing the club is highly unlikely to conduct any business before the January transfer window closes.
No New Faces for the Red Devils
In a blunt assessment, Amorim confirmed there have been "no conversations" about securing new signings this month. He stated the club's approach to the transfer market will not change, despite their precarious league position and the potential lure of Champions League football.
"The transfer window is not going to change," Amorim declared. "We have no conversation to have any change in the squad. There is a process, there is an idea."
Warning Over Premier League Position
The manager, who appeared stony-faced during the announcement, issued a clear warning. He pointed out that while United currently sit in sixth place ahead of Sunday's clash with Leeds United at Elland Road, they are dangerously close to the chasing pack.
"We are near the Champions League places, but we are also near eight teams behind us," he cautioned, urging focus on the immediate fixture.
Hints of Internal Discord Emerge
Amorim's comments hint at ongoing tensions between his vision and the club's hierarchy, including director of football Jason Wilcox. The rift seemed apparent over the Christmas period when the manager spoke about strengthening his squad before matches against Newcastle United and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
On Christmas Eve, Amorim said, "I think we are doing things; sometimes I have one idea, Jason and the board has another idea but every decision we make, we need to reach a common ground." He emphasised the importance of a unified strategy that survives beyond any single manager's tenure.
The financial constraints at Old Trafford were also highlighted. Following a summer spend of £236 million on new players, Amorim indicated before Tuesday's 1-1 draw with Wolves that his budget was now limited.
"I have the feeling that if we have to play a perfect 3-4-3, we need to spend a lot of money and we need time," he admitted. "So, I'm starting to understand that that is not going to happen. So, maybe I have to adapt."
Departures Also Ruled Out
The freeze on incoming players also means United are reluctant to let any senior figures leave. This stance comes amid persistent speculation surrounding the futures of players like Joshua Zirkzee, Kobbie Mainoo, and Manuel Ugarte.
When asked if any players had requested to leave, Amorim was unequivocal: "No, none of them. I don't expect them to come to me to ask anything."
