Manchester United could be sweating over the fitness of Leny Yoro ahead of their Champions League clash with Roma. The Red Devils welcome the Serie A side to Old Trafford on Tuesday as Michael Carrick looks to put a stop to his side’s nine-match winless run.
Pressure mounts after three straight defeats
The under-fire head coach has seen pressure mount on his shoulders, and particularly after three straight defeats. United were thrashed 4-1 and 3-0 by Como and Bournemouth respectively a fortnight ago, and a 2-0 loss at Chelsea followed last weekend, as Lisandro Martinez was sent off at Stamford Bridge and Morgan Rogers and Cole Palmer got the goals to hand Xabi Alonso’s hosts all three points.
Now, attentions turn back to the continent, where United sit 20th after three games. They have won once and lost their last two, against Atletico Madrid and Como, and they were handed a boost on Monday as Patrick Dorgu returned to team training ahead of the Roma encounter.
Dorgu returns, Yoro spotted strapped up
The Dane had been sidelined with a hamstring problem that he picked up on international duty in September, but his comeback will be hugely welcomed amid United’s lack of senior left-back options. However, there was cause for concern as eagle-eyed fans spotted defender Yoro strapped up ahead of Tuesday’s game.
The Frenchman, who has filled in at right-back to accommodate for Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui’s shift to left-back, was once again fielded at full-back in west London over the weekend, where he played the full 90 minutes. He was seen with strapping on his knee while training, but did not look in discomfort as he participated in various drills.
Defensive options ahead of Villa clash
The Frenchman could well be reinstated at centre-back should Carrick look to rotate his defensive unit, with Martinez suspended for the upcoming Premier League clash against Aston Villa. He was suspended for the Como defeat after being shown a red card against Atletico, but he returns from that ban this week.
