Manchester United played out a goalless draw with Sunderland at the Stadium of Light in one of their most lacklustre displays under Michael Carrick. The result came after United had already secured Champions League qualification last weekend.
Sunderland controlled much of the match, and United rarely troubled goalkeeper Robin Roefs. Goalkeeper Senne Lammens emerged as United's standout performer, making sharp saves from Noah Sadiki and Brian Brobbey, as well as clearing danger at Brobbey's feet.
Joshua Zirkzee struggled up front, nodding a free header over the bar in the first half and failing to hold up play effectively. Kobbie Mainoo and his midfield partner worked hard defensively but lacked physicality, while other players like the right-back and central defenders had underwhelming outings on the ball.
Wingers and attacking players failed to make an impact, with one player firing a tame second-half effort and another unable to provide the creativity needed. The draw reflected United's inability to impose themselves on the match.
